On August 31, 2016, I decided to job shadow the owner of Shoe Farm William Alanesi for my senior project . The store is located in 20370 Ave 232 in Lindsay California right next to Chevron. I chose to do my job shadow on William because I am interested in the business field. I felt he was the perfect person to interview because he is the owner of a local store named “Shoe Farm”. I got to experience the day in a life of a business owner.
When I was on my way to the my job shadow I felt really excited, I wasn’t nervous because I had already met him before and I had clothes at his store in many occasions. As a pulled up to the parking lot, I seen him waiting for me by the door. Admittedly once I saw him I reached back and grabbed my backpack which had my job shadow packet in it. Once I got of the car he greeted me with a firm handshake and we head on in side. He gave me a quick tour inside and showed me where everything was located. Then he began with his daily routine. First he started off by cleaning the store every morning. He cleaned the floor and removed dust from the counter tops. He than asked me if I could help him clean the windows. After we were all done cleaning, we patiently waited for customers to come to the store. While we were waiting he told me it was going to be a slow day. I asked him what he meant by that he said “many customers come on the weekends not weekdays, we don't sell many things on the weekdays.” He was right, a few hours had past and yet no one had arrived to the store. Meanwhile we were waiting Will went to the restroom. As soon as he went to the store a customer walked in through the doors. The customer began to look at some shoes I asked him if he needed help on any shoe size, he said no. By that time Will came out of the restroom and seen the customer walking out . When Will saw him leave, he asked me if I had any questions. This was a good opportunity to ask him my interview questions. Will had great responses to the questions I asked him. As soon as I finished my interview questions a couple customers walked in. Will helped them out and made the sells. Something I liked about his job is that he makes customers happy, I just don't enjoy the waiting game. One question many students like me have is, what's the next step after high school? One thing I had in mind was becoming a businessman. After this experience, it made me realize that maybe this ain't what I want to do. Now I know what it's like to be a businessman, and I feel like it ain't what I want to do in life. |
